| Re: Stop proposed logging in Robinson Forest Dear Editor: Shall we tell future generations that we had to log Robinson Forest in order to study it?! Surely, we can save this jewel of the Cumberlands from studies that require logging and inventorying the damage that logging causes. I have visited and hiked Robinson Forest. I know personally what a special place it is and its inherent value will only increase as surrounding areas are degraded by mining and logging. I urge UK's leadership on this issue, to preserve and protect Robinson Forest from logging. I am a US Forest Service volunteer; I respect that "trees are a renewable resource," but old-growth forests such as the Robinson Forest are not renewable. I have witnessed the damage that even selective tree cutting does in a commercial woodlot--compacted or destroyed forest soils, water runoff, loss of intact habitat, invasion of exotic weeds that out compete native understory, etc. The results are quite predictable and do not need to be studied further by raping the Robinson.
