Map of proposed logging areas in the Jellico Mountains

The following navigable map shows areas that the U.S. Forest Service has proposed for logging in the Jellico Mountains of the Daniel Boone National Forest. All of the areas in red are proposed for "regeneration" harvests, including clearcuts, shelterwood, and deferment harvests, each of which will remove most or all of the trees in the forest. Areas in yellow are proposed for commercial thinning and non-commercial "crop tree release." Areas in pink were clearcut in the 1980s and 1990s. A legend is at the bottom of this page.

You can navigate the map by using the controls in the viewer. The cross symbol allows you to pan left, right, up, and down. By clicking on the rotating arrow icon you can change the viewing angle and perspective, allowing a more three-dimensional exploration. You can navigate this map on a touchscreen by panning with a single finger and changing the view angle and zoom with two fingers.

The map was created by Kentucky Heartwood using U.S. Forest Service data. More information on the project can be viewed here.
