Bat Meter Deployment Field Trip

July 25, 2021
9am to ~7pm
South Redbird Area

Please see registration form for more details

Join Kentucky Heartwood for a day in the field deploying bat song meters with our biologist Victoria Susong-Long. You'll get a chance to hike the Red Bird Crest Trail located on the Daniel Boone National Forest, learn about how to monitor for the presence/absence of federally-protected Indiana bats and northern long-eared bats, ask bat questions, and hear about Kentucky Heartwood's concerns over future logging approved in the area.

Let's support a local business near Manchester, Kentucky! Acres of Grace Farm and Bakery will take orders for lunch! Please indicate your interest below along with dietary preferences.

We expect the whole field trip to last from 9am to ~7pm.

Registration is limited to 12 people. We ask participants to honestly assess their ability to hike in hot, inclement weather while possibly traversing rough terrain. Safety is our first priority; learning is icing on the cake. Bring more water than you need, electrolyte replacements, and salty snacks for the trail. Cell reception is very limited. We will carry a SpotX in case of an emergency. This hike is not appropriate for children or pets. Please leave them at home!

Once you are registered, we will send all of the information about field trip logistics!

If you'd like to inquire about the trip before registering, please email ashley@kyheartwood.org with questions.
