June 3 - First Friday Berea - Kentucky Heartwood will be tabling at the Berea's First Friday street festival. June's festival features music by Rising Appalachia. Not to be missed! http://www.firstfridayberea.com/about.html

July 7-10 - The Whippoorwill Festival – Skills for Earth-Friendly Living  - Lago Linda Hideaway, Beattyville, KY.  Kentucky Heartwood is proud to be sponsoring this year's Whippoorwill festival. The goal of the Whippoorwill Festival is to promote sustainable living in Appalachia by sharing earth-friendly living skills with one another in a joyful, healthy, family-friendly atmosphere. The festival features a stunning number of workshops for adults and children, as well as a terrific entertainment lineup - mountain music all three nights!  http://www.whippoorwillfest.com/

July 17 - White Fringeless Orchid Endangered Species Mural Berea Celebration  - July 17th at 2 pm. 123 North Broadway, Berea, Kentucky.  Join the Center for Biological Diversity and allies for the unveiling of a white fringeless orchid mural by artist Roger Peet. The dedication is part of the Center’s Endangered Species Mural Project, which celebrates endangered species in communities across the country to foster a deeper identification with regional biodiversity. The mural celebrates the white fringeless orchid, a beautiful wetland forest flower native to the southeastern United States.  The event includes music, educational activities and refreshments, and it is being hosted in partnership with Kentucky Heartwood. July 30 - 11th ANNUAL KENTUCKY HEARTWOOD MUSIC FESTIVAL Saturday, July 30, 2016, 3:00 - 10:00 pm. Milville Community Center, in scenic Milville, KY. Rain or Shine. Join Kentucky Heartwood for a one-of-a-kind festival featuring a youth music contest, art exhibitors, children’s activities, a chalk drawing competition, hands-on workshops, a folk dance, and entertainment by local bands. We can’t wait to see you at this amazing gathering of people! Registration fee for the music competition is $10.00 per act. Admission fee for all others is $7.00 per person; children 12 and under are free. All workshops are free with registration. 

The youth music competition is separated into two categories, ages 8-12 and ages 13-18. Each category is judged by a three person panel.  The prize for the winner of each category is $100.00 and a spectacular trophy created by artist and retired Kentucky State University professor Jeff Alexander, who lives in the Millville area.
